Magdalena Savitchi, or Magda, came to Vail in 2021 as part of a student program from Moldova. Like many, she fell in love with living here, especially nature and the hospitality industry. She came back in 2022, has lived here since and is proud to be a citizen of Vail.
She earned her degree from West University of Timisoara in Modern Languages and Linguistics. She started as a computer network technician and translator for RFI Romania. When she first moved to Vail, Magda started at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and then joined the Sweet Basil family as a busser. She moved from busser to host and then to server at Sweet Basil before accepting the Dining Room Manager position at Mountain Standard in May 2024.
Magda has loved being part of the Mountain Standard/Sweet Basil family as she has learned what genuine and unreasonable hospitality is and has helped develop an “insane” passion for food and wine in her. Part of what has drawn her into working in the hospitality industry was the variety of skills you learn including customer service, teamwork, time management, multitasking, patience, proactivity, self discovery, and creativity. She also loves the opportunities restaurants offer in career development and skill progression.
When she is not in the restaurant, Magda can be found snowboarding, hiking, playing board games, reading psychology and marketing books as well continuing her passion for foreign languages (she particularly enjoys Romanian, Russian, French, English and Spanish).
